Journey through Optometry and Vision Science

Prof. Matthew Olanrewaju Oriowo, (H.O.D, Department of Optometry & Vision Science)

Our Doctor of Optometry (OD) programme covers the study of fundamental physical and life sciences related to the visual system. Students will gain knowledge of optics, anatomy and physiology of vision, ocular pharmacology, pathology, and immunology. The department runs a six-year programme, leading to the award of the OD degree in line with the guidelines of the Nigerian Universities Commission and The Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria. The Department aims at producing competent, skilled and versatile Optometrists trained to handle the comprehensive examination of the eye, including refractive conditions and provision of spectacles, contact lenses, low vision or other optical aids, management of minor anterior segment problems, occupational hazards, as well as binocular vision problems. Our graduates will be capable of delivering appropriate professional eye-care services and other aspects of vision care.
